BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION
 
novineon Healthcare Technology Partners GmbH is a professional research and consulting company for the healthcare industry focused at the interface between the scientific and the business sector of medical technology and acting on an international basis. Novineon supports manufacturers and users of medical products and services in all aspects of research and development, product assessment, regulatory and legislative requirements as well as marketing.
 
 
Novineon uses well-defined, highly developed methods ranging from primary and secondary analysis of market requirements and competition to product definition, up to experimental research in its laboratories and clinical research. Novineon has experience in preclinical testing of innovative medical products and procedures and is specially focused on the medical evaluation starting from early stage of the product development to the final product. For the evaluation of novel devices applicable to the gastrointestinal tract, novineon has developed an incremental testing methodology ranging from ex-vivo endoscopy phantoms to animal labs.
 
 
MAIN TASKS WITHIN THE PROJECT
NVN is the leading partner for the medical background (WP2). In addition NVN is responsible for the experimental and preclinical assessment of the ARAKNES platform in WP10.
 
 
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Novineon and ist staff have been carrying out research in the field of medical technologies for over a decade. Novineon owns IP in the area of minimally invasive devices and has helped other medical device companies to invent and bring to market a relevant number of successful products. Novineon has participated in a series of publicly funded research projects in both international research programmes by the European Union in the framework programmes 5 and 6  as well as national programmes by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Novineon is currently coordinating the integrated FP6 Project “VECTOR: Versatile Endoscopic Tumour Recognition and Therapy”.

Prof. Dr. Marc O. Schurr, Managing Director of novineon Healthcare Technology Partners GmbH, has substantial professional experience in the global healthcare industry. He attended medical school in Tubingen, Germany, and took his doctoral degree following relevant research in the area of medical technologies. After graduation from medical school he attended business education at the St. Galler Management Seminar. Prof. Schurr has been working in medical research since 1990, his scientific results have led to a number of publications and conference presentations. From 1996-2002 he was Director of Steinbeis Transfer Centre Healthcare Technologies and was also in charge of the research program into advanced technology at the section for minimally invasive surgery, Eberhard-Karls University, Tubingen, Germany. In this function he has initiated and directed a number of international R&D projects. He is director of IHCI - Institute of Healthcare Industries at Steinbeis University Berlin and a member of the boards of several companies and associations.
 
 
 
Dr. Sebastian Schostek passed his studies on Engineering Physics / Microsystems Engineering at Munich University of Applied Science with distinction. As a scholarship holder, he was active in research and development (medical prosthetics, surgical instruments) as well as in apprenticeships (mathematics) throughout his study programme. In 2010, he received a PhD degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen, on the topic of artificial tactile feedback in minimally invasive surgery. His work in research and development has led to a number of publications, patents, lectures, and awards. Since 2003, Sebastian Schostek is working for NVN in the fields of technological and medical research, medical product development, project management, contract research, and business consulting. As Director of Business Unit novineon Technologies, he is responsible for research and development at NVN. He is also a visiting lecturer at Steinbeis University Berlin.
